Tribal Story

An Enduring Connection

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and our connection to tumwata village – or Willamette Falls – goes back to time immemorial. Our people have been above and below the falls for centuries. In the early 19th century, Euro-American settlement began disrupting our way of life here. We were forcibly removed, and the site’s nature and the tribal presence were replaced by industry and pollution. But with our purchase of the site in 2019, we are stepping back into our role as caretakers of the falls.
